Summer Recipe Series: Gut Healthy Sorbet

Hi friends, we’re back again with some delicious new recipes!

This week, temperatures are soaring into the 100s here in Wyoming—something we don’t see very often! With the heat wave in full swing, I’m all about cold salads, refreshing smoothies, and frozen treats. Recently, I’ve been craving something icy, so I experimented with a few new sorbet recipes last week, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint!

Here’s why I love them:

  • They're refreshing and delicious, but also packed with nutrients and are easy to make (think five ingredients or less). Plus, they're naturally dairy and gluten free friendly!

Of course, you know I have to get a bit nerdy with the ingredients, so let’s chat about some of the gut health nutritional benefits!

Cranberry:

  • Cranberries aren't just for Thanksgiving! These little berries are bursting with anti-inflammatory antioxidants, like vitamin C, quercetin, and proanthocyanidins. They also contain prebiotics, which are non-digestible fibers that feed the beneficial bacteria in your gut!

Basil:

  • Basil is packed with antioxidants, including beta-carotene and flavonoids. These compounds help protect the cells of the digestive tract from oxidative stress and damage. Since basil is a bitter herb, it can also stimulate the production of digestive enzymes, aiding in the breakdown of food and absorption of nutrients!

Tart Cherry:

  • Tart cherries can help reduce inflammation in the gut, which is especially beneficial for those with inflammatory bowel diseases. They also contain melatonin, which can regulate your sleep cycle. A good night's sleep is essential for a healthy gut!

I hope you enjoy these sorbets as much as I do - till next week!
