Blood Orange & Thyme Vodka Spritzer

You don't have to sacrifice taste for nutrition with this delicious summer cocktail!

I’m a big believer that all foods (and drinks) can be included in a healthy diet. 

YES, I mean cocktails too. 

While I am by no means encouraging alcohol consumption on a daily basis, fun drinks can absolutely fit in moderation. The problem is, not all alcoholic beverages are created equally. 

On one end, we have frozen daiquiris. While they may be delicious, they’re VERY high in calories & sugar. 

  • 1 frozen margarita = 250+ calories

  • 1 frozen strawberry daquiri = 400+ calories

On the other end, we have vodka sodas. Yes, they may be low in calories, but they’re not exactly what I would consider ‘fun’. 

So, if you’re looking for something that falls right in the middle, refreshing & fun, but not crazy high in calories, then give this recipe a go

Per cocktail:

  • Calories: 80 calories

  • Carbohydrates: 4 grams

Blood Orange & Thyme Vodka Spritzer

Ingredients

  • 1 blood orange
  • 1 oz vodka 
  • 1/2 - 3/4 cup seltzer
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice 
  • Fresh thyme sprig 

Instructions

  1. Slice the blood orange in half. Squeeze the juice out of the fruit while reserving 1 slice for garnish.
  2. Place 1/2 cup of crush ice to a glass. Add in the seltzer & vodka. 
  3. Pour in the juice from the orange. Add an extra splash of seltzer if desired.
  4. Top with a rosemary sprig and serve! 

Notes:

**Omit the vodka and replace with additional seltzer for an alcohol free beverage.
